Built for music, not just specifications.
Most compressors offer only a single engine and workflow. Orra Press is equipped with six dynamics engines, each of which can be loaded into one of six reorderable slots. This means the signal chain is tailored to fit the song, rather than the other way around.
The Traditional Approach
You open one compressor for tone shaping, another for control, and a third for limiting. You work while constantly switching between plugin windows. Eventually, you lose track of where you are in the process. You struggle to remember which knob you turned—and why.

The Orra Way
Load engines into the slots. Rearrange their order using the arrows. You can sequence a fast FET, a slow Opto, and a transparent limiter, or chain three classic compressors together, each applying 2dB of gain reduction. Compare four different configurations (A/B/C/D) and choose the best one for the final output.

6 Engines
You can assign any of the six engine types to each slot (duplicate assignments are also possible). You can freely experiment with different engines in the slots without losing your dialed-in settings.

How it works
Three simple steps to handle everything from single tracks to full master chains.
Load
Each of the six slots features a drop-down menu for selecting an engine. The available engines are: Empty, Classic, Optical, FET, Multiband, Spectral, and Limiter.
Switching engines within a slot does not overwrite your settings. If you switch a slot from Classic mode to FET mode and then back to Classic, your Classic mode settings remain intact.
Per-slot oversampling (Off, 2x, 4x, 8x) is available for all types, while the Limiter offers 4x, 8x, and 16x quality levels for ISP-compliant mastering.

Rearrange
Each slot card includes "<" and ">" buttons to move its position within the signal path. You can change the order without losing parameters; the settings move along with the slot.
Generally, placing fast, aggressive engines before slower, gentler ones yields a clearer sound. If you want to boost the volume, place the Limiter at the end of the chain.
Multi-stage compression often yields better sound quality than applying a large amount of compression in a single step. For example, try chaining two "2:1 Classic" compressors together, each applying 2dB of reduction. The total compression remains the same, but the noise floor is halved.
Order matters—feel free to experiment with it.
Compare
The header stores four snapshots (A, B, C, and D) of the entire plugin state. Each snapshot records the engine type for every slot, all parameter values, the chain order, and sidechain routing.
Click A to dial in your settings, then click B to make fine adjustments. Each bank automatically stores its state, allowing for instantaneous switching between banks. Clicking RESET clears the active bank. Holding the Option/Alt key while clicking a bank copies the current state to that bank.
Snapshots are saved along with the project and stored presets. Presets ship with four named variations based on the same starting point.

Sidechain anything
Each slot features an independent sidechain source. By using Orra Link 2—a free companion sender included with the Orra Press installer—you can select sources by track name rather than channel number. This allows you to sidechain any track in any DAW, even if your host doesn't support standard bus routing.

Sidechain settings for each slot are independent. For example, you can duck the bass in Slot 1 to the kick drum while triggering compression in Slot 3 based on a completely different track—all without the need for bus routing or aux tracks.
Multiband and Spectral Awareness
In Multiband mode, the sidechain signal is split via a proprietary FIR crossover bank, with each band's detector keying its corresponding sidechain band. Additionally, a masking overlay displays the Link 2 source behind the spectrum in the track's assigned color. Spectral mode performs a parallel FFT on the sidechain, allowing you to carve out spectral space in the main signal wherever energy is present in the sidechain. (Note: By design, the limiter ignores the sidechain; brickwall limiters do not process sidechain signals.)
Technical Specifications
Load multiple instances of the same type
Feel free to load two Classics, two FETs, or even three Optical modules. Multi-stage compression—applying small amounts of gain reduction (GR) at each stage—generally yields better sound than applying heavy compression in a single stage.
Mix knob for parallel compression
Every engine includes a Mix knob. Setting this to an aggressive 30–50% range allows for parallel compression within a single instance. This enables the classic "New York" drum technique without the need for auxiliary buses.
A/B/C/D Snapshots
The header stores four complete states of the plugin. Snapshots are preserved within the project and saved presets. Presets ship with four named variations based on the same starting point. Module and Chain Presets
The header bank features 14 factory chains; each chain stages 2 to 4 modules, applying appropriate gain reduction at each stage. Targeted applications include vocals, drums, bass, mix bus, three mastering chains, and broadcast voice. Each module has its own preset system, including 30 built-in factory presets (5 per type). You can set these presets as defaults for new modules or save your own with a single click.
Per-Slot Oversampling
Oversampling can be toggled between Off, 2x, 4x, and 8x for each detector and gain stage. The Limiter offers Standard (4x), High (8x), and Ultra (16x) modes to ensure precise true-peak control for ISP-compliant mastering.
Live Mode for Tracking
Engaging the LIVE toggle switch eliminates latency for the Classic, Optical, and FET modules during tracking and monitoring. The Spectral and Limiter modules retain and accurately report their inherent latency. All latency is reported to the host via PDC, ensuring mix timing remains intact.
