Church Bells by Joonas Ylänne, a realistic sample library of chapel bells of the Proulimatkan Chapel, is now available for free.
A few years ago, I received a call. A church didn't have bells, so they were playing them back on a tape recorder. However, the playback equipment broke, corrupting the files, so I was asked to re-record the Proulimatkan Chapel bells.
While creating "Handpan," my first Decent Sampler sound, I noticed that the sound resembled church bells. This gave me the idea to turn these recordings into a new instrument. The original recordings were requested in mono, but since there were multiple sources, I layered them together and panned them 100% left and right to create a stereo version.
For added versatility, I also experimented with the Freeze function in the reverb plug-in. This created pad-like textures and transformed the bell sounds into longer, more atmospheric tones. Unexpectedly, when played in the higher registers, these tones took on a choir-like quality.

This instrument requires the free Decent Sampler vst. It is not a standalone plug-in.
