**Stress-Free Sound**

Whether you are crafting silky synth sounds or perfectly balanced vocals, making audio "pop" while simultaneously taming harsh frequencies is always a challenge. You often need to soften specific areas—especially when the audio sounds overly harsh, boxy, or boomy. This is where DETROUBLER steps in to smooth out your sound and tackle the most troublesome aspects of audio processing.

Use this plugin as your guide to navigate the fine line between great sound and listener fatigue. It provides an all-in-one toolbox for fixing your mix by eliminating harsh frequency ranges.

DETROUBLER doesn't just blindly cut frequencies; it operates based on the science of psychoacoustics to pinpoint sonic unpleasantness that even a trained ear might miss. By utilizing concepts like the Fletcher-Munson curves and the Bark scale, the plugin identifies the root causes of auditory discomfort. However, if you prefer to skip the theory, DETROUBLER’s six uniquely targeted meters make it easy to smooth out the rough edges of your tracks in a completely musical way.

**Listen and Learn**

The dedicated "Listen" button is the perfect starting point, allowing you to clearly hear exactly which parts of the audio need correction. As you turn up the main "Detrouble" knob, you can hear—in real-time—what the plugin is capturing. Then, simply toggle "Listen" mode off to hear the changes in the context of the full mix. Six Keys to Success

The glowing spheres surrounding the main Detrouble knob function as clickable meters for specific frequency ranges. Clicking them enables or disables processing for that range. The brighter the sphere, the more intense the processing. If activity in a specific sphere is minimal, the audio is already in good shape, and no gain reduction is required.

Areas for Improvement

DETROUBLER focuses on six specific areas. It applies changes based on psychoacoustic principles, improving the sound of frequency bands—and their corresponding masking frequencies—according to the Bark scale.

Boomy: Excessive low-frequency resonance (often in the 100–250 Hz range), resulting in a sound that is overpowering or lacks clarity.

Boxy: A hollow or resonant quality caused by excessive energy (usually around 250–500 Hz), making instruments—especially drums and vocals—sound as if they are being played inside a small box.

Muddy: A lack of clarity caused by overlapping frequencies in the 200–500 Hz range, often resulting in instruments blending together indistinctly.

Honky: A nasal, resonant mid-range quality (usually around 500–1500 Hz) that gives vocals and instruments a somewhat brass-like sound.

Harsh: Upper-mid frequencies (2–6 kHz range) that are overly aggressive or grating, leading to listener fatigue.

Sizzle: Excessive, uncontrolled high-frequency energy (8–12 kHz range), which can make cymbals or vocals sound overly bright or unnatural.

Visual Feedback and Comparison

DETROUBLER is built using vector graphics and features a resizable interface. A live spectrum display at the top allows you to pinpoint problematic areas in the sound and see exactly what is happening to the signal passing through the plugin in real-time. This enables precise monitoring at every stage of the signal chain. If you enjoy experimenting, use the A/B comparison and copy/paste functions to compare different processing chains, and use the undo/redo buttons to revert changes.

Presets

DETROUBLER comes with a vast array of factory presets covering everything from subtle, surgical corrections to more drastic transformations. Use the provided parameters as a starting point to clean up any type of audio and bring out the best in your sound and productions.

What is the difference between Deres and Detroubler?

Deres

Deres is a resonance removal tool specialized for mid-range clarity. Removing the most dominant resonances in the mid-range typically results in a significant improvement in the clarity of a track or individual sound. It eliminates the most problematic resonances, making the mix clearer and more refined.

Detroubler

Detroubler, on the other hand, is a completely different type of plugin. Based on psychoacoustic research, it works by scientifically reducing frequencies identified as problematic or fatiguing to human hearing. Unlike Deres, it does not simply clean up resonances. Instead, it softens and smooths out problematic frequency ranges that might otherwise mask other details in the sound, making the audio more pleasant and easier for the human ear to process—resulting in a clearer mix. Features:

Research-based psychoacoustic processing plugin
Targets problematic audio areas
Easily identifies frequencies that cause ear fatigue
6 specific target areas
Listening modes to enhance monitoring
Frequency spectrum display
A/B comparison and Undo/Redo
Resizable interface
Highly responsive and CPU-friendly
Flexible factory presets
