Get afree copy of Galaxy Tape Echo by Universal Audio (normally $199.00), a tape echo emulation plug-in of  Roland RE-201 Space Echo, with any purchase at Plugin Boutique!

In 1973, Roland developed the RE-201 Space Echo*. This tape delay/spring reverb system produces a warm, distorted, and overtly analog echo effect. From subtle tape textures to evocative chaos, this iconic contraption can be heard in everything from classic Pink Floyd and David Bowie to the influential dub side of King Tubby, The Scientist, and Lee "Scratch" Perry.

The Galaxy Tape Echo plug-in is a thorough emulation of the iconic, legendary '70s unit, expertly capturing the inspiring physical behavior of the hardware—from its distortion, musical wow and flutter, to sci-fi pitch shifting, all in real time. Tweakable.

Space is the place

Universal Audio has meticulously captured all the quirks and characteristics of this complex device. For example, you can drive the input hard to add hair to vocals, or widen a drum bus with a thick analog character, just like the hardware. Tweak the controls to access seemingly limitless combinations of wow and flutter and pitch shifting. Perfect for energizing electric guitars. From rockabilly slapback to subtle trails of swirling delay, Galaxy Tape Echo is the secret sauce for any sound in any genre.

Faithful reproduction—warts and all

Galaxy Tape Echo retains the original hardware's controls and adds a few for modern workflows. Use the original Mode Selector for different head combinations, Repeat Rate for timing control, and Intensity for repeats and self-oscillation. An Echo/Normal switch mutes the signal to the echo, and global Bass and Treble adjust for flavor. New features include Tempo Sync, Pan controls for reverb and delay, and Tape Select for various delay tones. Capturing the quirkiness of the original and adding enhancements along the way, Galaxy Tape Echo is a tool for limitless creativity.
