The History of Synthesizers
From the late '80s to the early '90s, synthesizers underwent significant changes, and new types of keyboards began to emerge. Plastic replaced wooden components, and familiar knobs on panels were replaced by uniform clusters of buttons and shiny screens. The arrival of these digital synths marked a transformation that went far beyond the way we interacted with music. The models on which this collection is based ushered in the digital synth era. In addition to the benefits of digital processing, some of these keyboards offered innovative synthesis techniques that combined sample playback with classical methods, giving users the opportunity to explore new sonic realms.

A Massive Library Crystallizing Four Classic Models

These classic synths held more appeal and potential than we could have ever imagined, and they served as the inspiration for Digital Synsations. We selected four classic keyboards that represent their era and, with the help of our sound designers, successfully brought out their original charm and new possibilities. Digital Synsations features over 600 expertly programmed patches crafted from impeccably restored hardware used by greats like Depeche Mode, The Cure, Pet Shop Boys, Vangelis, Brian Eno, Toto, 808 State, Jean Michel Jarre, and many others.

Pure and faithful sound, practical and deep sound manipulation
All patches were deeply multisampled and impeccably edited before being sent for professional mastering. These sounds form the foundation of Digital Synsations, and combined with the UVI Engine, they deliver the true hardware character of these classic synths, preserving all their idiosyncrasies and programming artifacts. All are delivered in an incredibly easy-to-use, fast-editing environment, complete with an advanced arpeggiator. They also offer features not possible with the hardware or technology of the time, allowing you to create epic progressions and automatically triggered sounds with your keystrokes.

If you're looking for a new take on the classic '90s sounds, this is it!
Instrument
  • The original instrument on which this instrument is based is a synthesizer that combines next-generation FM synthesis (AFM) with sampled sounds (AWM2) generated by onboard memory and ROM expansion. Its distinctive feature is its versatility: it applies filters and envelopes to sampled sound sources, then returns the waveforms to the FM algorithm for further calculations and digital filtering. This method, known as RCM hybrid synthesis, combines the realism of samples with the versatility of FM processing, allowing for a wide range of sonic effects. The DS77 faithfully retains the texture of the original instrument while offering UVI's unique ease of use and modern parameters, while also offering new sound design and convenience.
  • The KORG M1, on which this instrument is based, is a digital synthesizer that employs Ai (Advanced Integration) synthesis. Ai is a hybrid method that combines 16-bit multi-samples with a method similar to the addition of harmonic tables digitally analyzed from sampled waveforms. This synthesis method is known for its diverse and unique sounds, achieved through parallel processing. The DS1 faithfully inherits that fascinating sound and texture. With an operation panel reminiscent of the original, and easy-to-use parameters and effects, it's a finishing touch that allows you to rediscover the wonder of PCM sound.
  • The base model, the Ensoniq VFX, is a synthesizer that combines PPG Wave wavetable synthesis with the latest sampler technology of the time and cutting-edge interpretation. It features the ability to layer and patch up to six excellent sample sounds, and tones can be constructed using a dual-mode filter, three 11-stage envelopes, an LFO, and high-quality 24-bit filters and effects. Parameter modulation and control of up to 15 sources allows for complex, expressive sound creation. The DSX inherits the powerful sound of the original while being tailored for modern production.
  • The base model is a major Japanese synthesizer with a pure digital signal path. Synthesis, combining 8-bit PCM samples and linear calculations, allows for a wide range of sound creation, from single hybrid sounds to complex cross-modulation with two oscillators. Layering additional sounds allows for a rich variety of impressive tones. The DS90s retains UVI's signature sound while pursuing cutting-edge ease of use and convenience. Its appeal is further enhanced by its high-quality sound and effects, as well as modern parameters.
