Deboom, Demud, Level

If you're familiar with BassShaper's sister plugin, Kickshaper, you'll remember the Deboom dial. Although the name is the same, the algorithm is completely different, this time designed specifically for bass information. It's activated by amplitude, resulting in less boominess and a cleaner tone.

The Demud control uses a special pitch tracking system to dynamically reduce muddiness caused by note transitions and resonances, making individual pitches more clear.

Traditional bass riding plugins roughly alter the volume level of your bass lines. BassShaper's Level control is much more sophisticated, driven by a pink noise signal and specifically tuned to reduce amplitude fluctuations and produce bass that sounds consistent throughout your track.

Punch & Fade

Unfortunately, bass compression tends to compress the entire bass line uniformly. BassShaper's Punch knob works differently, however. It applies precise compression or expansion, focusing only on the transient-heavy parts of your bass line, on the first milliseconds of each note for a crystal-clear reproduction.

The Fade control is the opposite of Punch, compressing or expanding only the tail of your audio. This allows you to shorten long bass notes or lengthen short bass notes, giving you another creative way to integrate your bass lines with other instruments.

Subtone

This section of the interface gives your audio a real sense of life. Unlike a transient kick, bass notes are often sustained and require a deeper presence. That's where the low frequency generator Subtone comes in. After cleaning up your bass with the Deboom and Demud dials, bring it back to life with Subtone. In addition to adding bass, this feature enriches your tone by generating complementary frequencies. Dive an octave down with SUB or soar an octave up with HIGH to shape your bass lines to suit any sound system, from club setups to home audio.

Equalizer and Enhance

Going beyond traditional EQ processing, this control panel splits your audio into three linear bands and applies a wide range of band gains and proportional saturation. Boost or cut the bands for a fuller, more noticeable bass mix that will carry through smaller speakers. Or use a gentle cut control with a 6dB/octave slope to minimize phase interference.

Extended controls include Press, a 670-style compression algorithm with great character. The Depth control applies analog hardware convolution to make the bass louder and add depth and interest while taming excessive treble. Heat brings out the meatiness and characteristic saturation. Mix acts as a dry/wet control for parallel processing adventures.


Visual feedback and comparison

BassShaper is built with vector graphics with a resizable interface. Live audio is displayed in the central window, showing you exactly what is happening in real time to the signal passing through the plugin. This allows precise monitoring at each step of the chain. Those who like to experiment can contrast different processing chains with AB comparison and undo/redo buttons to undo changes. Automatic gain compensation, oversampling and limiting options make it easy to analyze changes.
