The BA-1 is more than just an analog modeling synthesizer; it also features an FX section meticulously modeled after budget rack effects from the 1980s. Users have long requested a standalone version of the BA-1's versatile effects chain, and that request has finally been granted.
Every download of BA-1 v1.5 includes the standalone "BA-1 FX Strip" plugin.
Use the FX Strip to run any audio through the BA-1's virtual circuitry, adding 80s-style drive, filtering, delay, reverb, chorus, and even the BA-1's speaker simulator.
Onboard Arpeggiator
The arpeggiator was an essential element of 80s synth sounds. In BA-1 v1.5, we have added a classic hardware-style arpeggiator featuring three modes (Up, Down, Up/Down) and a three-octave range.
Flexible Chorus Parameters
The original BA-1 offered a simple on/off chorus effect reminiscent of the Junos and other classic 80s synths. In v1.5, the chorus can now be set anywhere from 0% to 100%, offering greater flexibility in how you apply this distinctive, rich effect.
Easter Egg
Clicking the colored dots between the BA-1's display segments reveals additional synth parameters.
LFO Fade adds a ramp time to the modulation waveform—causing it to fade in gradually (or abruptly) to the set frequency—creating more unpredictable LFO effects.
Chaos introduces non-linear behavior to the reverb and chorus algorithms, generating unpredictable pitch glides and dissonant textures.
Preset Browser Improvements
The BA-1 preset manager has undergone significant workflow improvements in version 1.5. You can search for presets by name, filter by pack, and mark patches with color-coded tags for easy recall.

BA-1 is Baby Audio’s modern reimagining of a cult-classic 1982 analog synth that looked like a toy but sounded like a monster. It delivers pure, authentic textures that are colorful and quick to program.
BA-1 is based on a portable synth from the 1980s known for its toy-like appearance and gritty sound. Despite its small size, it left a major mark on music history yet has largely flown under the radar of the hype machine. The original has served as a secret weapon for cheerful synth textures in the hands of some of Sweden's most successful pop producers over the past two decades. It was a staple of 1990s digital dancehall and beloved by the indietronica scene for its raw, lo-fi quality. Yet, the original—known as the "CS01"—had never been properly captured in software form. That is why we chose it as the starting point for our first synthesizer.
The Sound
True to our motto—"Evolution, not emulation"—we modeled the hardware with the utmost accuracy before carefully enhancing it with useful new features. Additions like a second analog-modeled oscillator, FM synthesis, and polyphony significantly expand the original's sonic palette without compromising its signature sound. Furthermore, the BA-1 allows you to simulate battery depletion, circuit bending, and built-in speaker playback to achieve an authentic lo-fi aesthetic usually found only in hardware.
Effects
If you know us, you know that effects are our specialty. That’s why we gave the BA-1 an FX section worthy of a standalone plugin. The effects chain draws inspiration from affordable 1980s rack hardware, capturing the lo-fi charm of that era's home studio scene. The overdrive is modeled on guitar pedals, while the delay, reverb, and chorus effects are based on budget-friendly yet fantastic digital rack units.
In the BA-1, effects aren't an afterthought; they are integral to its sonic character. So go ahead—tweak, use, and abuse them.
Simplicity
The BA-1 is simple, yet offers surprising depth for fine-tuning. We put immense effort into fine-tuning every parameter to its optimal "sweet spot." This results in a rewarding programming workflow where tweaking the BA-1 is genuinely fun and encourages the constant creation of new patches. And if the simple interface isn't fast enough for your needs, you can always use the smart "Re-Gen" function; with a single click, it automatically generates a new, musically tuned patch.
