Mercury-6 by Cherry Audio, the high quality Roland Jupiter-6 analog polyphonic synthesizer emulation, is now 50% off for $29 at the lowest price ever.
The Mercury-6 is a meticulously recreated version of the Jupiter-6 analog polyphonic synthesizer, originally released in 1983. Sandwiched between the earlier Jupiter-4 and Jupiter-8 models, the refined Jupiter-6 was sometimes considered a dull release. More recently, its distinctive dark and complex character has made it one of Roland's most famous and coveted classic synthesizers. If you've always wanted to explore the Jupiter-6, you'll love the Mercury-6!
The Year Everything Changed
Despite being released in 1983 as a more affordable alternative to the flagship 8-voice Jupiter-8, the 6-voice Jupiter-6 occupies a significant place in the history of analog polysynths. While similar in appearance and feature set, the Jupiter-6's sound was quite different from the Jupiter-8. The Jupiter-6's versatile filter design delivers a more aggressive sound than previous Jupiters, seamlessly blending into cutting-edge techno and electro styles.
The Jupiter-6's VCOs supported multiple simultaneous waveforms, and its two LFOs and oscillator cross-modulation capabilities provided a wide range of modulation possibilities. Its earth-shattering solo and poly-unison modes enabled massive lead and bass sounds, and it was one of the first synthesizers to incorporate the then-new MIDI protocol. However, cost-cutting measures in the Jupiter-6's design resulted in several drawbacks. Audio output was mono only, and polyphony was limited to 6 voices, hindering the potential of split keyboard functionality. And unfortunately, the timing coincided with the release of Yamaha's groundbreaking DX7. However, as the Jupiter-6's enduring appeal has proven over decades, its popularity grew in genres such as big beat, house, and techno. As a result, the original hardware remains in demand today.
Mercury-6: Twice the Features for a Few Prices
Cherry Audio's Mercury-6 takes all the best parts of this classic and enhances the exceptional feature set and functionality of today's DAW production and workflows. The Cherry Audio team has added velocity sensitivity, improved the split mode, and added a layer mode that allows you to stack two different sounds simultaneously with per-layer stereo pan, detune, and sustain. Panel controls allow users to easily select and navigate these layers, and include utility functions for swapping settings between lower and upper layers, or between presets. With polyphony extended to 16 voices, Mercury-6 never runs out of voices.
They also recreated the arpeggiator, including the original's hidden up/down mode, and enhanced it by adding a random mode and MIDI tempo sync. A chord memory mode allows saving and playing multiple notes in a single key. Cherry Audio improved the LFO functionality with a retrigger option for LFO-1 and an always-on option for LFO-2. Both are syncable to MIDI tempo.
Cherry Audio also introduced an integrated studio-quality effects panel with fantastic-sounding distortion, phaser, flanger/chorus, delay, and reverb. With additional features such as per-layer drift control, over 500 professionally designed presets, and flexible MIDI mapping, Cherry Audio's Mercury-6 brings the true Jupiter-6 experience to the future, 40 years from now.
- A highly optimized, large-scale dual-layer voicing architecture with 16 polyphonic voices per layer. Keyboard split or stack layer modes allow you to play two layers simultaneously, with all parameters, including effects, individually controlled for each layer.
- Two VCOs per voice with combined waveform functions: Triangle, Ramp Sawtooth, Noise, Square, or Variable Pulse
- Multimode filter with 24 dB/oct low-pass, 24 dB/oct high-pass, or 12 dB/oct band-pass modes
- Accurately reproduces the original advanced VCO-2 to VCO-1 FM cross-modulation for scorching tones
- Accurately implemented portamento and glissando modes
- Accurately replicated arpeggio section with MIDI tempo sync, the original hidden up/down mode, and the addition of a random mode
