UVI's PX Apollo, a faithful recreation of the legendary Moog Apollo, the very rare Polymoog prototype, is now 76% off for just $19 at the lowest price ever.
The PX Apollo is based on a rare synthesizer prototype from the early '70s, of which only two are known to exist. Part of a larger, ultimately abandoned project, this instrument pioneered the world's first and most prolific polyphonic analog synthesizers. With a rich, warm, and almost surreal sound, it was surprisingly playable for its time, featuring velocity sensitivity and a performance interface. Its 71-voice polyphonic architecture heralded a paradigm shift in synthesizer design that would unfold over the next decade.
The PX Apollo project embodies tremendous effort and a commitment to quality at every level. Due to the components available at the time of their design, early polyphonic synthesizers were prone to failure and required constant maintenance. The unit used in PX Apollo was no exception; initially inoperable, it required extensive restoration, with no expense spared to ensure full, authentic original functionality and performance.
Once the restoration was complete, we set out to capture this historic instrument as accurately as possible. Using the best available hardware, we created a vast master sample catalog. Each key was sampled in a variety of configurations, creating four round robins for each note. The resulting PX Apollo sound bank consists of over 4,000 samples. From this library, our sound design team created over 150 patches, resulting in an impressive collection of ready-to-play patches.
PX Apollo's UI is inspired by the aesthetics of the original hardware, and the layout and control scheme are designed for intuitive and efficient use while maximizing flexibility. It allows both quick editing of preset sounds and deep customization with a full suite of synthesis tools and effects, including three oscillators, an envelope generator, high-quality filters, pitch and stereo control, and per-oscillator modulation and arpeggiation.
PX Apollo offers a glimpse into a key moment in synthesizer history, one of the most important turning points in the industry, delivering a rich, detailed sound with a warm, distinct character.
