Take your kicks with Chop Suey to the next level! Chop Suey is a low-end powerhouse that makes kick drum design super easy and fun. We've all been there: you browse hundreds of kicks, but nothing really works. One has a great transient, another has a cool punch to the face, and a third has the perfect booming tail. But when you layer them, the result is a weak muddy mess. Layering kicks is rarely successful. Chop Suey is the solution. Instead of layering, the elements are ordered in order. This method eliminates phasing issues while allowing the combined kick to maintain crisp transients, body punch, and characteristic tails.
Shaping your kick with a compressor, saturator or transient designer can be a tedious task. These tools affect the entire kick, so you can't easily edit the transient without affecting the body. The area you can do is small and your options are severely limited. With Chop Suey you can always see what you're doing. The first few milliseconds of the kick are crucial for perception, so you can visually stretch this area for fine edits.
Edit with surgical precision
You can use curves to shape your sound with surgical precision. This allows you to edit exactly what and where you want to shape your sound. Editing the transient doesn't affect the punch or the tail. Regular (digital) filters are often not suitable for editing kicks, because they don't respond fast enough to parameter changes. Chop Suey's filters are specifically designed for editing kicks. They respond very fast to sudden changes in cutoff and resonance without introducing zipper noise or artifacts.
