Build Progressions
Drag and drop chords to build progressions. Choose from hundreds of chord sets, categorized by artist and mood, and Scaler will tell you the parent scale that fits those chords. If you're stuck for ideas, let Scaler suggest your next chord.
VST/AU Hosting
Load your favorite third-party instruments and effects plug-ins directly into the Chord Track and MIDI lanes. Full support for both MIDI and audio effects. Seamlessly integrate your sounds and expand the creative possibilities of Scaler 3 within your workflow.
Multi-lane Timeline
The Arrange page now includes a timeline-based layout with dedicated lanes for chords, melody, bass and phrases. Each lane is synced with the main Chord Track, allowing you to fully tweak your clips with independent controls per lane or clip.
Standalone App
In addition to being a plug-in within your DAW, Scaler 3 can now run as a standalone app for Mac and Windows, providing a complete and flexible composition tool with multi-track operation and plug-in hosting.
Explore Page
Discover the harmonic universe of chords that aren't tied to any particular scale. Categorised by genre and mood (EG, Dark, Bright, Neutral), the Explore page suggests compatible and experimental chord progressions, paving the way for new unique and daring harmonic structures.
Colour Page
See all your chord voicings and harmonic alternatives comprehensively on one unified page. Instantly access parallel and relative chords, as well as diverse voicing and alternative options to add expressiveness and creative flexibility to your compositions.
Motions
Popular phrases, performances, melodies and basslines from Scaler have been reimagined as motions, with mood-based tags for easy reference. Scaler 3 introduces hundreds of new motions created by professional musicians, including the all-new Passages Motion.
Circle of Fifths
Get alternative chords as you progress. Select a root note close or far from your chosen chord, or within a relative minor or major scale, and we'll show you in blue which variations of that chord fit into the current scale. Here you can also experiment with chord inversions and transpositions.
Modulation Pathways

Scaler EQ
Following the award-winning Scaler music theory plug-in, Scaler EQ offers a surprising new way to EQ with musicality and color. By only emphasizing note frequencies that are in the key of the song and lowering only note frequencies that are not, Scaler EQ puts a new twist on cut and boost manipulation, enhancing the tonality behind the music and providing new harmonic avenues.
And if you want a regular, full-featured modern EQ, Scaler EQ gives you a familiar workflow, a wide selection of band types, mid/side manipulation, dynamic bands, and stereo enhancement. You can easily apply classic mixing and mastering techniques used by the pros, with the added option of adding a musical edge.
What can Scaler EQ be used for?
Music Production: Ideal for musicians and producers who want to improve the musicality of their tracks by ensuring all instruments are in tune with their chosen scale.
Audio Editing: Simplify the EQ process by targeting and cleaning up frequency bands, removing audio that doesn't belong and enhancing audio that naturally exists in your chosen scale.
Audio Engineering: Use dynamic compression and expansion to dynamically smooth out audio by suppressing harmonic frequencies or expanding harmonic frequencies.
Mastering: Place it on the master channel to increase stereo width, enhance bass and beef up your mix.
DJing: DJs can use it to ensure the tracks they mix are in tune by detecting the key and scale while balancing the mix of each track.
How Scaler EQ Works
The World's First In-Key EQ
Thanks to the harmonic peak and "plus/minus" filter type, when you perform a boost with Scaler EQ, it will only boost frequencies that match the currently set scale. Cutting in the same band only reduces out-of-key frequencies, but can be set to cut in-key frequencies as well, which can be useful in mixing.
EQ and Key Selection
An in-key EQ gives you warmer bass and sweeter treble when boosting, while an out-of-key cut gives you clearer, more focused bass and less harsh treble that maintains musicality.
Easy Key Detection
Key detection allows you to automatically capture the key of your music through audio or MIDI, making it quick and easy to set up a sweeter, more tonal boost. To choose a broader or more focused timbre, you can add or remove notes in the currently selected scale.
Musician- and Producer-Friendly Band Types
Scaler EQ's harmonic band types aren't the only options for boosting and cutting. The array of traditional shelf, bell, and high-pass/low-pass filters will be instantly familiar and easy to use for any producer, and Scaler EQ has even more to offer to reward your creative exploration.
Magic Shelf
Scaler EQ's unique Magic Shelf bands work with stereo characteristics in mind. Boosting the Magic Shelf in the low frequencies affects the band's mid-frequency signal more than the side information. Cutting the Magic Shelf by lowering its level in the low frequencies cuts more of the side signal than the mid-frequency information.
Magic Shelf
The Magic Shelf in the high frequencies works in a complementary way, increasing the sides more strongly and decreasing the mids more strongly. As the Range control is increased, the Magic Shelf band introduces a complementary scoop or bump before the corner frequency.
All the Cons of Mod EQ
Scaler EQ has a solid workflow for boosting and cutting bands and shelves like a traditional EQ, making it fit alongside all other mixing plug-ins. Each band or shelf can also be set to Dynamic mode, softening boosts and cuts with dynamic compression and expansion set by the Threshold, Ratio, Attack and Release controls.
Dynamic EQ Bands
Scaler EQ also has plenty of stereo options. Stereo channel selection (Mid/Side/Stereo) for every band makes it easy to enhance or reduce the energy in specific areas of the stereo panorama. And thanks to the mono frequency selector, you can quickly and easily make bass areas mono at the frequency of your choosing. The stereo width dial uses our proprietary Expanded DSP to enhance stereo width in a frequency-aware way.
