Analog Modeling Synthesizer
Bring the amazing analog sound of digital technology to your DAW.

Inspired by the legendary KORG Mono/Poly, the new KORG multi/poly analog modeling synthesizer combines breathtaking analog sound with exceptional digital power and flexibility. It has already garnered high praise as one of the best synthesizers of the year.

Korg is pleased to announce multi/poly native, the software version fully compatible with the hardware multi/poly synthesizer. multi/poly native supports VST3, AAX, and standalone formats on both macOS and Windows, and also supports AU on macOS. Seamlessly swap sounds between hardware and software, and access to a growing number of excellent third-party libraries, ensures you always have the latest sounds and software. Create sounds in your DAW using multi/poly native, and then perform the same sounds on stage using the hardware multi/poly. You can also create sounds with the hardware's intuitive interface and share them with collaborators on your computer.

Customers who own the hardware version of multi/poly can obtain a crossgrade license to the multi/poly native version for a special price of $49.99 USD by using a coupon code linked to their multi/poly hardware-specific ID (contact KORG directly for details). Using both the hardware and software versions allows you to enjoy the benefits of both: a touch-responsive physical instrument and complete DAW integration.

Next-Generation Analog Modeling

The multi/poly synth features redesigned, stunningly sounding filters and oscillators, further deepening the evolution of analog modeling. First, each voice has a virtual voice card, and its oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, and portamento circuits model variations of analog hardware components. As a result, each voice has a slightly different character, producing natural and rich tones. These variations can be individually adjusted for each sound to your preference.

Similar to analog synthesizers, the voice card continues playback even when no sound is heard. Because the envelope is constantly changing, when playing pads with long release times, newly played notes don't restart from zero but "follow" the current envelope level. Oscillators and LFOs maintain phase, and resonant sounds continue to play. The pitch of each oscillator fluctuates slightly over time, replicating the slight pitch instability found in analog hardware.

The envelope is an often overlooked element that contributes to the distinctive sound of vintage synths. Multi/Poly includes envelope curve presets for Mono/Poly, MS-20, "Mini," "Pro," and ARP Odyssey. Furthermore, analog VCAs don't respond uniformly to voltage and have different on/off thresholds, significantly impacting the characteristics of the amp envelope. Therefore, Multi/Poly includes modeled VCA responses for Mono/Poly, MS-20, Mini, Odyssey, and Pro, as well as a linear option.

Have you ever tried to recreate the portamento effect from your favorite song, only to find that switching between "constant rate" and "constant time" didn't yield the right settings? Because classic analog synthesizers employed various approaches to portamento, this multi/poly synth offers six different portamento models.

Oscillators

The multi/poly synth features four oscillators per program, enabling incredibly thick and complex tones. Each oscillator can be a classic, digital, or waveshaper type. Classic oscillators faithfully reproduce traditional analog synth oscillators, producing a naturally thick sound. Eleven options include both single and dual waveforms, allowing you to model synthesizers that generate multiple waveforms simultaneously. Front panel knobs provide intuitive control over pulse width, triangle wave "slope," dual waveform blending, and more.

Digital oscillators play wavetables of up to 64 steps, similar to vintage hybrid synths and modern Eurorack modules. You can start with over 200 factory wavetables or load your own. You can directly import Modwave wavetables or convert wavetables from common software formats. Over 30 modifiers allow you to change how tables are loaded, giving timbres a range from subtle to extreme, and processing them in real time using 8 morph types including stretch, flip, and mirror.

Waveshaper employs the "West Coast" method, processing simple waveforms (sine or triangle waves) with a shaper table. Gain modulation to the shaper generates smooth, dynamic harmonics. For traditional wavefolder sounds, you can use the Berkeley shaper or choose from over 90 shaper types. Multi/Poly adds a unique twist with pulse width modulation, bringing a new dimension to rich and dynamic sounds.

In addition to oscillators 1-4, it features an independent noise generator with dedicated filtering and saturation, and a ring modulator that accepts input from all of the above oscillators.

Multi/Poly further expands upon the powerful oscillator synchronization and cross-modulation capabilities of the original Mono/Poly, creating timbres previously only achievable with large-scale modular synthesizers. You can create unique sounds by simultaneously connecting Oscillators 2, 3, and 4 to Oscillator 1 for synchronization, cross-modulation, or both. Alternatively, you can split these functions into oscillator pairs with individual controls.

Dual Model Filters

All filters in Multi/Poly are newly designed and include a fantastic suite of vintage filters with genuinely pleasing saturation. First, there are five quadpole self-resonant models. M/Poly delivers the powerful, sweet sound of the classic Korg Mono/Poly. Mini is the beloved American mono-synth ladder filter, with reduced resonance at low frequencies, crucial for generating classic bass sounds. Pro is from the first programmable polyphonic synthesizer, featuring a powerful resonant sweep across the entire frequency range. Finally, Ladder HP and BP are quadpole self-resonant high-pass and band-pass filters, respectively.

The MS-20's LP and HP filters utilize a 12dB/octave self-resonant "Korg 35" filter, faithfully reproducing the aggressive tone characteristic of the legendary Korg MS-20. The SE M/P 2-pole filter offers a milder characteristic, featuring continuous switching between low-pass, band-reject, and high-pass modes, as well as an independent band-pass mode.

With a full range of linear, resonant 2-pole and 4-pole low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and band-reject filters, you can freely adjust the sound. Furthermore, KORG's unique multi-filter allows you to blend multiple modes simultaneously to create modulated sounds.

All of these filters support audio-rate modulation, producing bright, poppy, and effervescent effects that stick in your ear. You can use oscillators and ring modulators as modulation sources, and blending in a noise generator can create even more chaotic tones. In addition to the saturation built into the vintage filters, the drive circuit with post-filter anti-aliasing allows you to add weight and grittiness to your sound, from subtle thickness to heavy distortion, to your preference.

Finally, you can use two of these filters simultaneously in series or parallel. The program has two filter slots, A and B. Each source, including four oscillators, noise, and a ring modulator, has a balance control that crossfades between the two filters, providing a wide range of creative options. For example, you can run one group of oscillators through an M/Poly filter and the other through an MS-20 low-pass filter. This creates a classic high-pass → low-pass series chain, but bypasses one or more oscillators through the high-pass. Because this is a continuous crossfade, not just a switch, you can modulate the A/B balance to achieve your own effects. The filters also work in stereo, and you can set individual panning for each source.
